Malmö Live

Malmö Live the new concert and congress center in Malmö. Finished in summer 2015 as apart of a larger building project incorporating upscale housing and Malmö Live buildings containing hotels, congress and conference and the concert hall with two scenes.

Here is my interpretation of these buildings. More to come as all the apartment buildings around the "Live" are not finished.

Cheers!

Architectural post processing

Trying out some new techniques to post process architectural images. Looks cool so far, but still need more practice to make it look as I imagine them.

Hope you like them, and feel free to comment and leave suggestions.

Triangeln subway station

Its been a while since I posted anything, but summer vacations and general laziness got in the way.

Got inspired when accidentally stepped down into the subway station which I generally never use, bicycle is the preferred way of transportation in Malmö and keeps you healthy. So here is a couple if images of the escalators, of course edited in a bit dramatic way, as all my images trying to make them a bit larger than real life.

Cheers

Alnarp castle

Alnarp castle
Alnarp Castle (Swedish: Alnarps slott) is located in Alnarp, Scania (Skåne), approximately 10 km north of Malmö in southern Sweden. The original castle on the property was built in the 12th century. The present building was erected in 1862, in French Renaissance style.

The first mention of the castle occured in the 12th century. In 1325 Alnarp came into the possession of a knight named Anders Pedersen, and then Aage Nielsen Ulfeldt in the early 15th century. In 1449, Alnarp passed into the ownership of Niels Stigsen Thott. The Ulfeldt and the Thott families were members of the Scanian nobility. The castle eventually passes to the Krummedige family, and in 1500 it was owned by Erik Kummedige, a cousin of Henrik Krummedige, and an advisor to the Danish king. In 1536, Christian III took possession of the castle for the Danish state.

After the treaty of Roskilde in 1658, king Charles X Gustav of Sweden gave the castle to a commandant of Malmö, Johan von Essen. In 1660, Charles XI gave it to Gabriel Oxienstierna. From 1694, it became the residence of the Governor-General of Sweden in Scania.

Today the castle houses offices and meeting rooms used by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The castle park has the second highest variety of trees in Sweden and is open to the public all year.

Malmö Garden Show

Malmö garden show
Took a tour around the garden show in Malmö Slottspark (castle park) hoping for some interesting pictures, but the place was overcrowded. Not a chance to get some shots of the exhibitions. So I got only a few overview images, but luckily the windmill was open for visitors, so the trip was not in vain, image-wise.

Clouds over Öresund

Clouds Sky Pier Öresund Sweden Scandinavia
The pier in Västra hamnen

Taking a bike ride around Västra hamnen whe these clouds caught my eye. Of course I did not have a tripod with me nor any filter to make a proper long exposure. The light was not good enough for a colour image but I knew immediately that it would look good in black and white. I had to fake the water movement in software, since i left the tripod at home.

Skåne in sunny May

Kronetorp windmill
A typical image of Skåne (Scania) when the rape-seed blooms. This one from Kronetorps windmill, a dutch-style mill from 1841, heritage classified building.

Waiting for a spectacular sunset, but all the clouds magically disappeared as I was setting up the tripod, so only a clear blue sky, but came out OK.

One of those moments that strikes you and you finally get the meaning of the sculpture, after spending three hours in a crowded shopping mall. Good thing I had the camera with me.

Öresund bridge viewed from Bunkeflostrand. The lone tree and the concrete base for an old coastal gun caught my eye. Makes great contrast against the fluffy clouds and the bridge in the distance. Thought it would make a good black and white image. Well anyway it was a good excuse for a great walk in the sun....

Frans Suell

Frans Suell

Frans Suell (9 June 1744 – 5 November 1818) was a Swedish businessman. His grandfather Franz Suell immigrated to Malmö from Holstein in the mid 18th century. Frans grew up working in his father Niclas' shop selling mostly provisions; after studying two years at Lund University, he entered the tobacco importing trade, in which he was successful.

Suell's career coincided with the American Revolution, a period of political disorder in the chief tobacco-growing regions of North America. These events broke the power of the tobacco lairds based in Glasgow and other British port cities, and made it possible for Suell to import tobacco directly from North America. He prospered, and beginning in 1775 led a consortium of local shippers in the successful public works project of dredging and embanking the Malmö harbour. It is for this work that he is remembered in Malmö today.

Suell also acquired interests in many other industries connected with the spread of the Industrial Revolution to Sweden, such as textiles, the smelting of iron, and the refining of beet sugar.

Two ships have been named in his honour: MT Frans Suell (1958) and MS Frans Suell (1992)
